  • Hat Factory Art Centre
    • The Hat Factory Arts Centre welcomes artists to propose projects as part of their programming, for their performances, underground, rehearsal rooms, bar space, and also for art work on display – e.g. photography and/or visual art. The financial arrangements vary between guarantees; box office splits; or the user paying a hire fee, which will be on a case-by-case basis dependent on project. Programming is usually between 6-12 months in advance. Their cafe and bar space are also often available for use. They may be willing to consider support in-kind for the right project, depending on availability. For example, offering in-kind use of the cafe space when there’s already other activity in the building. If you would like an intro, please email the Luton Arts team and they can put you in touch.
  • Venue Central (Chapel Street)
  • Luton Central Library
    • Luton Libraries are open to working in collaboration with artists and the community, particularly to co-create content around the current programme, A Year of Stories and, from January 2026, The National Year of Reading.
    • All five public libraries in Luton have spaces where community art can be exhibited, including pictures, photographs, and smaller 3D works. In contrast to the Central Library, with its gallery space and multiple hanging rails, space at the smaller libraries is limited.
    • There may be opportunities for permanent art, subject to Luton Borough Council approval and in association with anticipated library developments.
    • In all cases, art should be suitable for a community space open to all.
    • Costs related to installation and for commercial art exhibitions apply.
    • Performances and workshops can take place in all public libraries, with pop-up, immersive, or suitcase styles most suited to the library space. This includes the dedicated children’s space at the Central Library.
    • While the library needs to stay accessible to people who aren’t participating when the libraries are open, it’s okay to make joyous racket (or even cacophonous noise!).
    • At Stopsley Library, Lewsey Library, and Marsh Farm Library performances or workshops can be scheduled when the public space is closed, such as on a Wednesday morning.
    • At the Central Library there are bookable, discrete spaces, with charges ranging from £6 to £80 per hour.
    • The largest of these, the Conference Room Suite, is on the same floor as Luton Library Theatre. It is a flexible space that can seat up to 90 people theatre style or 80 cabaret style. It can split into more intimate rooms, perfect for breakout spaces, smaller workshops, or activities that spread across multiple spaces. Tech includes pairable smart TVs, an interactive flipchart, WiFi, and a sound system.

    • There are also quiet corners, designated spaces for promotions, and smaller bookable spaces.
    • The Well & Wise Room is located by the front entrance and, in addition to use by health and wellbeing organisations, it is used for creative writing and art workshops. It has a wipe clean floor, a hanging rail, and a display case.
    • With its large map table, The Heritage Room is perfect for up to 15 people and is used for local history talks.

  • The Luton Library Theatre
    • The Luton Library Theatre is run by Luton Creative Community, a CIC run by volunteers. They say our theatre is run BY the Community, FOR the Community. They have collaborations with several arts organisations already and are always prepared to listen to any project idea, no matter how large or small. The Luton Library Theatre is open for hiring for rehearsals and performances, there may be flexibility in particular around day-times. They have a large 238-seat auditorium plus a bar area that can be hired independently. There are also conference rooms that can be booked from Active Luton through the Theatre.

  • The Hat Works
    • Co-working and meeting room space is available. The Culture Trust Luton is offering free temporary access to spaces at Hat Works, Luton. This is for creatives, heritage practitioners and cultural not-for-profits. This is to support skills development, cultural practice, and to widen community engagement with culture. This will be free of charge during venue opening hours and subject to selection.
    • Whether you’re an emerging artist, grassroots cultural or heritage organiser or collective – you’re welcome to get involved. The Culture Trust invites you to propose activities that are inclusive, accessible, and contribute to a vibrant cultural environment in Luton.
