Celebrating creativity in Luton: Year one roundup and what’s next

December 16, 2025

From funding opportunities to new partnerships, discover how the Luton Arts Place Partnership Programme is shaping the town’s cultural future – and what’s coming in 2026.

Luton is buzzing with creativity — and we’re proud to be part of it. As we mark the first year of the Luton Arts Place Partnership Programme, we’re reflecting on what’s been achieved and looking ahead to an exciting year of growth.

Why this programme matters

Funded by Arts Council England’s Place Partnerships Fund, Luton Rising, and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this 2.5-year programme was designed to strengthen Luton’s cultural infrastructure, nurture local talent, and create opportunities for collaboration. Working alongside partners including Music 24, Luton Culture, Tangled Feet, University of Bedfordshire, UK Centre for Carnival Arts, Clore Leadership, and Revoluton Arts, we’ve laid strong foundations for long-term impact.

Year one highlights

The past year has been about listening, learning, and taking action. Here are some of the milestones we’re proud of:

  • Create Fund launched – 163 applications received across both funds, 11 Lightning Fund grants awarded, and 141 Evolution Fund EOIs received (36 progressed to full applications).
  • Support for creatives – Drop-in sessions, one-to-one advice, networking events, and online resources.
  • Building partnerships – Commissioned an audience development report, appointed an independent chair for the Arts & Culture Strategy Group, and introduced carbon literacy training for artists (coming in 2026).
  • Future-facing work – Contracted delivery of a resource hub and commissioned a feasibility study into artist/maker spaces.

Meet the 11 talented creatives who received Lightning Fund grants and explore their projects.

What we’ve learned

Listening to the creative community has shaped every decision. We’ve learned that trust takes time, transparency matters, and collaboration is key. Luton is already rich with creativity, our role is to provide the support that helps ideas grow bigger, stronger, and longer lasting.

What’s next in 2026

Next year will be a year of delivery and growth:

  • New Evolution Fund announcements
  • Launch of the resource hub
  • Creatives bringing their funded projects to life across Luton
  • Feasibility study into activating creative maker space
  • Carbon literacy training for artist and arts organisation

We’re committed to ensuring the momentum continues beyond the life of this programme.
